During the 2025 Tour of Gardens a property that is reclaiming the natural beauty of North Oaks is being featured. Here the owner has invested significant energy to remove invasive species and plant native and pollinator friendly plants. We hope to inspire those with similar interests to share their experiences and to learn more about the process. This panel will discuss what it takes to be successful with ‘native plantings and pollinator gardening'.

Join the North Oaks Garden Club for an evening of community fellowship and inspiring education with panelists from:
Prairie Restorations - Prairie Restorations, Inc. was founded in 1977 as one of the first companies in the nation dedicated to restoring and managing native prairie plant communities. Prairie Restorations’ mission is to produce and provide the most ecologically appropriate seeds, plants, products, and services, utilizing them to restore and manage native plant communities. Site consultations, installation, and management of native plant communities have been implemented and are ongoing throughout Minnesota. Their service division performs weed control, prescribed burns, seeding, planting, woody weed removal, site evaluations, and more.
VLAWMO (Vadnais Lake Area Water Management Organization) - Vadnais Lake Area Water Management Organization (VLAWMO) is a special unit of local government that works to protect and enhance the water and natural resources within the Vadnais Lake Area Watershed, which encompasses North Oaks. VLAWMO offers grant funding for projects that improve water quality, conserve water, and promote water stewardship actions. Eligible landscaping projects must use native plants, which have the added benefit of providing pollinator habitat.
UMN Bee Lab - The Pollinator Ambassadors of the UMN Bee Lab is designed to engage new audiences to learn about pollinators and become empowered to teach others. Pollinator Ambassadors receive training and materials from experts to spread the word and lead more people to take action to protect pollinators. Pollinator Ambassadors provide Education Toolkits for outreach and training as well as providing teacher resources to support pollinator education in the classroom.
The Prairie Enthusiasts - Minnesota Oak Savannah Chapter The Prairie Enthusiasts advocate for native habitats to ensure the perpetuation and recovery of prairie, oak savanna and other fire-dependent ecosystems in the Upper Midwest through protection, management, restoration, and education. The Minnesota Oak Savanna Chapter of Prairie Enthusiasts was established in 2024 and includes Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne, and Wright counties. The chapter provides hands-on education, training, and volunteer opportunities and inspires community members to develop a connection with the natural habitat in their own backyards.
Providing a pollinator-friendly environment for bees and butterflies and including plants native to Minnesota are the the most significant actions each of us can take to sustain strong crop, plant, and seed production for years to come.
